In veel van deze armaturen zit het rustige, oranjeachtige licht (ook bekend als natriumlicht). Hoe werken SOX-lampen: SOX-lampen worden aangestuurd door een voorschakelapparaat en soms ook door een ontsteker en een condensator. Als je een conventioneel voorschakelapparaat (Philips BSX Constant) gebruikt, heb je ook een ontsteker (Philips SX) en een condensator nodig. Het kan ook zijn dat er een elektronisch (hoogfrequent) voorschakelapparaat wordt gebruikt (Philips EXC). In dat geval zijn een ontsteker en een condensator niet nodig.
