De ABB Busch-Jaeger rookmelder uit de Busch-free@home serie is uitgerust met een lithiumbatterij, waardoor hij alle soorten rook en vuur 10 jaar lang continu kan detecteren. Het apparaat werkt volgens een optisch principe en is vooral effectief voor vroegtijdige detectie van smeulbranden binnenshuis met rookontwikkeling. Ondanks het elegante ontwerp kan de detector een luid alarm van 85 decibel afgeven als reactie op de kleinste rookontwikkeling van smeulende branden en vlammen. De detector kan draadloos worden verbonden met maximaal 20 andere detectoren voor extra veiligheid, waarbij alle detectoren in het netwerk een alarm afgeven als een van hen dat doet.
