De Gira KNX 3 buskoppeling systeemtoepassing is uitgerust voor de aansluiting van één sensor/actor en bevat een vloeraansluitunit. Het systeem werkt met een bedrijfsspanning van 30Vdc en bevat een busaansluiting. De KNX 3 buskoppeling fungeert als een verbindingsbrug tussen het KNX systeem en een KNX applicatiemodule. Deze combinatie van een buskoppeling 3 en een applicatiemodule vormt een functionele eenheid die ontworpen is in de vorm van het applicatieprogramma van de applicatiemodule in een ETS-project. Op de buskoppeling 3 kan een externe temperatuursensor worden aangesloten voor extra temperatuurmeting, zoals ruimtetemperatuurregeling. Let op: de externe sensor werkt uitsluitend in combinatie met een tactsensor 3 Plus.
