Om de apparatuur op zijn plaats te houden wanneer de beweging stopt, kies je een 5/3-wegklep met een gesloten midden. Omdat ze een gesloten centrum hebben, houden ze lucht vast in de cilinder wanneer ze gestopt zijn. In verticale cilindertoepassingen heb je bijvoorbeeld een klep nodig om de luchtdruk weg te houden wanneer de apparatuur stopt, om te voorkomen dat de stang het begeeft. Een pneumatisch handbediend ventiel wordt gebruikt om handmatig een luchttoevoer in en uit te schakelen. In een pneumatisch systeem kunnen ze cilinders aansturen en andere apparatuur signaleren.
